Addiction does not make a distinction between race, sex, age or “class”. It ruins athletic careers, professional careers, families, relationships, and often leads to death.
A graduate of St. Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he played varsity hockey, Jamie was drafted by the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. But his promising future stopped short as his life became twisted and tortured by the world of drugs and alcohol.
Sober and clean now since June 28, 1999 and with great warmth, passion and unique genuineness, Jamie shares his personal battle and his experience, strength and hope for the future in an attempt to help people in all professions realize that they are not alone in their struggle and that the beginning of the solution lies in asking for help.
Jamie’s message is clear….change is possible, recovery is possible. Living clean and sober is a reality for thousands of people who have overcome the fear of asking for help. The choices and decisions we make today will have an effect on our lives in the future.
Jamie’s warmth, passion and unique genuineness clearly come through in his presentations as he outlines how it is possible to overcome the guilt, shame, isolation and low self-esteem that go hand in hand with drug and alcohol abuse - whether it is in the corporate world, student or athlete.

For each child there will come a time when they walk into a room and are faced with a choice. A choice about wether or not to take that drink or try that drug. This is inevitable.
As parents and coaches all we can do is try to educate our kids and prepare them so they will hopefully make the right decisions .
And for those who do not....then let's teach them that it is safe to ask for help.

Getting clean & sober is hard but staying sober is even harder. You do not have to do it alone. I can help you along the way.
I have spoken to NHL teams, AHL teams, Major Jr Teams, NCAA schools, USports schools, Prep Schools....By sharing my story of addiction and recovery I am able to help young athletes view alcohol and drug abuse differently. Forcing them to question their own use and hopefully opening the door to asking for help.
